Beginner & Intermediate - Tinker Twirlers / Twirling Stars - Wednesdays 6:30 PM
Our Beginner and Intermediate classes are currently combined due to the fact that twirlers work on their basics together and progress individually. This class welcomes twirlers of ages 5-18 that are first time baton twirlers! In the Beginner level, your child will learn basic handling, dance techniques, marching techniques and essential twirls that will be valuable in advancing their skills in future classes. Your twirler will work to complete a short trick packet in class that span these areas of twirling. Your twirler will be able to participate in all full-team events within 2 months of attending practices. If you are brand new to the sport, the Beginner class is a great way to get started in the sport of baton twirling!
This Intermediate level welcomes twirlers of ages 5-18 that have participated in baton twirling for 1 year. Completion and proficiency on Beginner/Tinker Twirler tricks are essential for success in this class. After graduating the beginner level, twirlers are promoted to this Intermediate level. Each Twirling Star will be given a folder with a trick packet with 12 levels of tricks. These tricks increase in difficulty with each level. Twirlers will work individually on their trick packet and work at their own pace through each level and will receive individual attention and help from Coach Cat. Twirlers in this level will begin to learn basic thumb flips, high tosses and spins, basic rolls and learn to catch tosses in various ways (blind, backhand and side catches). Twirlers will participate in this class level until completion of all 12 levels. Instructor permission is required to register for this class.
Advanced - Twirling Star Graduates & Twirlerettes - Thursdays 6:30 PM
This class is designed for our most advanced twirlers that have successfully completed both the Beginner and Intermediate class levels. Tryouts are required in order to become an official Twirlerette and are held annually in August. Twirling Star Graduates are students that have completed their Twirling Star packet and are in the midst of preparing for tryouts. Twirlerettes are those that have successfully passed the tryout process. Twirling Star Graduates act as team mentors and leaders of the Beginner and Intermediate class and typically perform in the front 2 lines of parades to lead the team. As a Twirlerette, students will be able to perform their solo by leading parades or twirling flag or 2-baton as a part of our team performance.
At regular team practices, twirlers also get to experiment with difficult duet and full team partnered exchanges, work with multiple batons frequently, further develop flexibility and learn to incorporate spins and catches with heel-stretches, ground rolls and dance! Twirlers in this level are typically, seasoned competitive twirlers that are experienced in dance/gymnastics and have developed performance quality and stage presence. Twirlers in this level are also dedicated to the sport of baton twirling exclusively, and are therefore considered our most advanced twirlers and our elite performance team.
